Join EA Philly's "Talk Tuesdays" watch party and small group discussion about diversity & inclusion within the EA movement.

Join EA Philly's "TalkJoin EA Philly's "Talk Tuesdays" watch party and small group discussion, featuring an intimate and incredibly important discussion between Julia Wise and Sky Mayhew from the Community Health team at the Centre for Effective Altruism discussing diversity and inclusion within the EA movement: Why is EA not more demographically diverse? Why does it matter? What can we do?

EVENT FORMAT:
After a <5min introduction, the featured talk and/or Q&A (15-40min) will be shown over Zoom. Afterward, attendees will be divided into a series of rotating small discussion groups to chat about the session content. Optional discussion prompts will be provided to keep the conversation flowing.

Open to -- Everyone! Though certain talks may be more "advanced" than others, Talk Tuesdays are geared towards a general audience who are eager to explore EA-related topics with an open mind.

SPEAKER BIOS:
Julia serves as a contact person for the effective altruism community and helps local and online groups support their members. She serves on the board of GiveWell and writes about effective altruism at Giving Gladly. She was president of Giving What We Can from 2017-2020. Before joining CEA, Julia was a social worker, and studied sociology at Bryn Mawr College.

Sky provides support, resources, and strategy recommendations to individuals and organizations in the effective altruism community. She works in close collaboration with Julia on community health. Currently, she primarily consults on media, mentorship, and diversity, equity, & belonging. In her career as a professional interpreter, she previously coordinated national programs to improve the American Sign Language interpreting profession in the US. She holds a Master's of Public Administration from Gallaudet University and lives in Washington, DC.
