The organization Resource Generation (https://resourcegeneration.org) seems to have taken Anand Giridharadas' / Thomas Pogge's philanthropy criticisms to heart and members appear to be committed to giving up their inheritances and wealth for social justice causes. Their modus operandi appears to be something like inheriting-to-give, to address systemic injustices.

The group appears to be pretty well developed (600+ members, 16 chapters). If they gain notoriety, it will be interesting to see how they are received by the mainstream as against how EA has been, especially since they talk about giving up power, whereas EA generally wants to gain power. Their desired end goal is different from many EAs' of course, theirs being social equity.

Do they have thoughts on GiveDirectly? Looks like although they mention the Global South, they're asking members to donate to first world political advocacy groups. Was Giridharadas one of the critics who says rich people have too much influence on US public policy?

I don't know but I sent their info@ email a message to ask. I'm curious as well. If I get a response, I'll post it.

And Giridharadas does argue that the wealthy have undue influence on policy and further that the kinds of philanthropy the wealthy engage in doesn't actually affect the unfair systems that helped make them wealthy to begin with and that perpetuate inequality.
