The Patient Altruism altruismtag (sometimes called patient longtermism) is for posts about:

  1. Whether to "give now vs later"the view that individuals can have a greater positive impact by investing current altruistic resources and spending them later than by spending them now. These resources include both financial and non-financial resources. The narrower view that altruists should invest and later donate financial resources, instead of donating them now, is sometimes called patient philanthropy, or how much to give at various times (sometimes discussed as a debate about "patient philanthropy")
  2. Similar questions in relation to work, such as whether to do a directly useful job now vs building career capital to do directly useful jobs later
  3. How to implement patient altruism (e.g., tips for investing to give), if one chooses to take that approach
