Resilient food (sometimes called alternative food or alternate food) is food that uses "non-solar energy inputs" and that could therefore be produced even if a catastrophe such as a nuclear war, supervolcano eruption, or asteroid impact causes abrupt change in the climate (Baum, Denkenberger & Pearce 2016; see also nuclear winter).  Examples of alternative foods could include mushrooms grown on trees or edible bacteria fed natural gases (Baum, Denkenberger & Pearce 2016).

One organisation that focuses mostly on alternative foods is the nonprofit ALLFED.
