Michael Robert Kremer (born 12 November 1964) is an American economist, currently a professor of economics at the University of Chicago. Together with Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee, he was awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his use of randomized controlled trials in social science to alleviate global poverty (Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 2019).[1]

Background

Kremer studied at Harvard University, where he majored in social studies and, in 1992, received a doctorate in economics. He was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1993 to 1999, and at Harvard from 1999 to 2020. In September 2020, he joined the University of Chicago as University Professor in the department of economics and the school of public policy.
