Bio

My current approach to improving the world has spanned two themes: the first is economic policy, and the second is politics.

In the economic policy track, I hope to pursue a PhD in economics or a JD-PhD in economics, and enter academia or a think tank, bouncing into friendly state and federal administrations when they enter office, ideally serving roles in a state treasury, the U.S. Treasury, as well as economic development departments or in the White House at the Council of Economic Advisers or National Economic Council. I have pursued this track by completing internships at the White House Council of Economic Advisers, the Maine Governor's Economic Recovery Committee, and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. I have also pursued research assistantships at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and with Professor Emily Oster at Brown University. Because economic policy is broad, entering into a senior policymaking role at the state or federal level would allow me to improve the world through particular policies: investing in pandemic preparedness, asteroid and space weather forecasting, climate change response, and funding for certain technologies.

For politics, I would likely enter immediately after college graduation, and maybe pursue a JD or other graduate education further down the line. Direct political work would also afford me more latitude in terms of policy areas I could influence, primarily limited by level of service (i.e. state or federal): at the state level, I could influence climate policy and pandemic preparedness, whereas at the federal level, I could likely influence foreign aid policy, AI policy, research and development spending, and broader federal priorities. I have pursued this track by becoming one of the youngest presidential electors in US history, interning with Governor Janet Mills's re-election campaign, and serving on Maine's Democratic State Committee and the Cumberland County Democratic Committee's Executive
