Further to Saul's suggestions, SAFE and New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society (NZAVS) are strong national organisations which work in influencing animal welfare policy. I have some connections to both organisations if you need a link. The New Zealand Animal Law Association (NZALA) is also a good organisation to connect with. I understand that NZALA often works with SAFE.
