I list "social media manager" for Effective Altruism on LinkedIn - but I highlight that it's a voluntary role, not a job. I have done this for over 10 years, maintaining the "effective altruism" page amongst others, as well as other volunteering for EA.

Ya know what? That strikes me as 100% legitimate. I had approached it from the perspective of "there isn't an organization called Effective Altruism, so anyone claiming to work for it is somehow stretching/obfuscating the truth," but I think I was wrong. While I have seen people use an organization's name on LinkedIn without being associated with the organization, your example of maintaining a resource for the EA community seems permissible, especially since you note that it is volunteering.

Hi, thanks for your piece. You write beautifully and content writing is actually needed in AI alignment. Maybe we can help you to find a meaningful career that you're happy with? It would be great to have a chat, if you're up for that. Kind regards, Rochelle (rochelle@ashgro.org)

When you tag a user, press enter or click on the name. @GiveDirectly Rochelle would like to join the webinar and did not receive a message yet (presumably).

Very happy to see this!

I'd like to join the webinar please.

Thanks Rochelle! :)

GiveDirectly is looking for a UX designer.

Look for Senior UX/UI designer at GiveDirectly on LinkedIn.

(Unfortunately there's a technical glitch which prevents me from sharing the link.)

No worries, thank you so much for the tip. I have not expected to receive so many hints, it's a bit intimidating, but I'm very grateful. :)

Thanks for this perspective! I'm excited to see your 2-min video about ineffective donations, but there is an error message at the moment.

Oops, I reposted the video and therefore the link changed. It is now updated!

"Any civil servants (lawyers, policy professionals, analysts) can apply to any other internally advertised role after that have passed their probation."

What do you think about joining the civil service in e.g. administrative roles so that more civil service vacancies are then advertised to you?

Hi rharris, if you have more experience in eg admin than in policy, it might make sense to apply for an administrative role to get some initial experience with the Civil Service. You'd be eligible to apply for other internally-advertised roles after you've passed your probation (normally six months) and you'll be a more competitive applicant because of your Civil Service experience.

It's unfortunate that the UK media launch will coincide with the general election. The competition for mainstream media coverage from other causes will be heavy, especially since the new Transparency legislation has restricted the other activities that charities can do.

The UK general election will be 7th May 2015, whereas the main media launch will be August 2015. So won't we be ok? (But great consideration, that I hadn't even thought about).
