Location: Matilda Bay (more details closer to date)
Date: 6th December
Time: 4pm-6pm
We will meet to discuss the ideas in The Precipice: Existential Risk and the Future of Humanity by Toby Ord. You can participate even if you haven't read the book.
In The Precipice, Ord lays out the case that humanity severely neglects existential risks such as nuclear war, catastrophic climate change, pandemics, unaligned artificial intelligence, super-volcanoes, and great power conflicts. According to his best estimates, the chances of humanity going extinct this century is 1/6 - russian roulette.
Learn about the risks, what we can do to safeguard humanity and why doing this is so important.
We will have free snacks for attendees.
This will likely be our final event for the year.
