UK Government-funded fieldbuilding event establishing a government-academic-industry partnership research community for the use of AI in applied nuclear physics applications (civil and defence). Takes place at the Institute of Physics, London.
Cost: £25 non-student / £15 student / £0 member of the Institute of Physics. Lunch not included.
Registration deadline 30th September.
I (Kes) will be there with my poster about changepoint-theory maths for low-compute radioactive isotope detection in counterterrorism situations. Were you worried about somebody detonating a radioactive dirty bomb in London? Well maybe you are now! I know what the detection network structure is (as I'm working on getting it using less battery) and I'll tell you all about it, although I can't say exactly where the detectors are for security reasons :D
Would be great to see experienced EAs with a dual research interest in AI safety and nuclear threat reduction (both highly relevant on global catastrophic risk) turning up and getting involved with trajectory steering. Also there might be some research internship opportunities for students prepared to put themselves out there, given that it's a lot of professional researchers gathering in one place.
