In many movies, when the situation gets truly desperate, a heroic group of people stand up to the challenge and fight evil head on. We, Effective Altruism Munich, have evidence you can do the same (see below). That’s why we want to invite you to this semester's intro event at Effective Altruism Munich.

What is it: A presentation explaining the fundamentals of Effective Altruism. Socializing, networking and pizza :D (the pizza is vegan).

When? 23rd of April, 18:30

Where? StudiTUM (Gabelsbergerstraße 43, 80333 München)

Who can attend? Everybody is welcome, students, professionals and anybody else!

How to save my place? Just mark your assistance here  (at the beggining of the post). Previous intro events have filled up so sign up soon!

In Effective Altruism (EA) we don’t think heroism should stay in the movies. We like to mix this approach with scientific evidence and mathematical thinking to produce the maximum impact. This is what sets us apart. For example: for many people choosing the correct career is more important than choosing where to donate. You have got about 80000 hours in your career, and for many people this is their most valuable ressource. And when it comes to charities: charities evaluated independently and scientifically often show differences 10x-100x in impact!  This mindset has created a global movement that has saved 300,000 lives, 100 million chickens and done much, much more.

Specifically, people like you, students and professionals in Munich have done great things, two examples:

Matthieu (Matt) Putz (Coefficient Giving, San Francisco) Program Associate at Coefficient Giving and has directed more than $4 billion in grants across areas including global health, pandemic preparedness, potential risks from advanced AI, and farm animal welfare.

Carla Zoe Cremer (Computer Science, Oxford) She is a DPhil student in the Human Information Processing Lab at the University of Oxford under Professor Chris Summerfield. She is also known for co-authoring work on "Artificial Canaries" — early warning signs for anticipatory and democratic governance of AI — which won a best paper award.

Interested in this topic, but you cannot make it to the event? No worries! Contact us directly or directly sign up for our Intro Fellowship.

So, don’t miss out! ;)
