We're excited to welcome Tobias Leenaert to EA Hamburg for an evening talk on animal advocacy strategy, and we'd love for you to join us!

The event will take place at the Haus des Engagements, on the second floor of Große Bergstraße 266 (Neues Amt Altona). We'll update this post with details on how to get in shortly before the event.

About the talk

What we do to farmed animals is one of the biggest moral crises of our time. The suffering persists even though compassion for animals is widespread. Yet that compassion is hard to act on while most people remain literal and figurative "steakholders." Individuals and societies are deeply invested in the use of animals, especially for food, culturally, economically, and psychologically. As long as behavioural change feels costly, moral concern struggles to translate into practice. In this talk, Tobias Leenaert lays out a strategy to make the world a better place for animals, one focused on pragmatism rather than idealism. He covers where we are, why change is so hard, and what works and what doesn't.

About the speaker

Tobias Leenaert is the author of How to Create a Vegan World: a Pragmatic Approach (published in 14 languages). He is a longtime speaker and strategist, giving talks and trainings all over the world. He is also co-founder of ProVeg International and was previously director of Proveg Belgium for fifteen years. Tobias is keen on thinking out of the box, building bridges between different groups, and practicing what he calls "slow opinion".

This is hosted by Effective Altruism Hamburg, a group focused on using evidence and reason to figure out how to do the most good. New faces are always welcome!
