AI is developing at a breakneck speed, from barely coherent language models in 2019 to ChatGPT passing university exams in 2023.
This fast progress has led to an increasing amount of experts to publicly warn of the dangers of this technology, arguing it will transform society at least as much as the industrial revolution once did, and even warning that systems more capable than humans may become uncontrollable.
To help develop AI technology in a fair and safe way, the field of AI governance has emerged, researching the impacts of AI on society and hoping to guide decision-makers in regulating the technology.
Konstantin Pilz has been working as a research assistant in AI governance for the past ten months and will share some of his impressions on the field and give insights on how to get involved. Afterwards you can ask your questions in a Q&A.
