What is this?
----------------
The Arete fellowship aims to encourage students to learn and think critically about the most important ideas in Effective Altruism. The fellowship will involve weekly discussions in a group of 5-10 fellows. Emphasis will be placed on both philosophical foundations and practical implications.

What is Effective Altruism?
----------------
There are many people who want to do good in the world and an overwhelming number of ways to do so. But, both as individuals and organizations, we have limited time and resources. This raises the question that the Effective Altruism community tries to answer: how can we do the *most* good? This is, of course, an extremely complicated question. People in the Effective Altruism community, a growing movement world-wide, have poured hundreds of thousands of hours into thinking about this question, researching relevant facts about the world, and using their time and money based on these findings. This research project has necessarily produced only tentative and imperfect answers, and has raised many additional questions. Nevertheless, we believe the community has made important steps in the right direction and has produced ideas that are important to engage with for anyone who is serious and excited about making the world a better place.
