Join us for an event aimed at helping professionals who are interested in biosecurity and pandemic preparedness. Our lightning talk format will feature 4-5 speakers who will share insights into their careers, day-to-day work, how they landed their roles, what challenges they face, and what they've learned along the way.

This event is designed to remove barriers and uncertainties that may be preventing you from making progress in your career plans or transition. Our speakers will offer advice on how to test fit, what they've changed their minds on, and how they can help attendees find opportunities in the field. Whether you're just starting to explore a career in biosecurity or you're further along in the process, this event is for you.

Speakers:

Anemone Franz, Advisor at 80,000 Hours. Anemone is a physician with a background in global health and infectious diseases. She works as an advisor for 80,000 Hours, a research and career support organisation where she focuses on biosecurity. Previously, she worked as a clinical trial physician for Alvea, a start-up company aiming to accelerate the development and deployment of medical countermeasures for pandemics.

Ben Mueller, Chief Operating Officer at SecureBio. Ben was a senior policy analyst at the Center for Data Innovation, focusing on AI and technology governance. Prior to joining the Center, he was chief of staff at a financial technology company in London. He was also a consultant for The World Bank. Ben studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the University of Oxford, and completed his PhD in International Relations at the London School of Economics.

Joshua Monrad, Biosecurity Program Offier at Effective Giving. Joshua leads the biosecurity program at the philanthrophic advisor Effective Giving, which allocates >$10M/year in grants towards mitigating global catastrophic biological risks. Previously, Joshua has worked as a researcher at Oxford University, the Nuclear Threat Initiative, and the Georgetown Center for Global Health Science and Security. He holds degrees in public health and in ethics, politics, and economics.

Thomas Milton, CEO at Amodo Design. Tom is CEO of Amodo Design - an engineering startup developing tech in the biotech, medtech and industrial sectors. Alongside Amodo's typical client design work they run a work-stream developing new hardware for biosecurity, which they then implement by spinning out for-profit startups (e.g. Galeos working on next-gen PPE). Previously Tom was founding engineer at Unicorn Biotechnologies where he helped raise a $3.2m seed and build a new generations of bioreactors for stem cell culture.

You'll have the chance to meet others who are in similar positions and get guidance from those who have been in your shoes. Our goal is to help you understand the next steps in your career and where you could be a good fit. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about what it's like to work in alternative proteins and take the next step in your career journey.
