Hi everyone,
My name is Akansha, and I’m new to the EA Forum. I’m here because of a long-standing commitment to malaria and a growing interest in evidence-based, cost-effective approaches to saving lives.
My journey into malaria research began in 2012 after losing someone close to the disease, an experience that shaped my career path. What started as a personal loss has grown into a long-term commitment. I began as an intern at the National Institute of Malaria Research and later pursued a PhD focused on the malaria parasite lifecycle, working on compounds to inhibit its growth.
After completing my PhD in 2019, I moved to the United States for a postdoctoral position at Harvard University. I also collaborated with the Broad Institute and the Malaria Drug Accelerator (MalDA). My research focused on how malaria parasites adapt to environmental pressures and drug exposure.
In 2022, I transitioned to a Content Specialist role at Frontiers Media, where I supported open-access publishing across infectious diseases. While I gained valuable experience in scientific communication and research dissemination, I’ve realized that I want to return more directly to impact-focused work.
I am now seeking remote opportunities where I can contribute to high-impact global health work aligned with EA principles such as cost-effectiveness and maximizing lives saved per dollar. While I am new to the EA space, I bring a strong research background, experience evaluating evidence, and a deep personal commitment to this cause. I am eager to learn and contribute.
Thank you, and I look forward to learning from this community. I truly hope to dedicate my work to reducing the disease burden and helping ensure that fewer lives are lost to a disease that is both preventable and treatable.
I would greatly appreciate any advice, connections, or opportunities.
Best Regards,
Dr. Akansha Pant, PhD
