Bob Fischer's book on animal ethics has a section that attempts to do this.
It seems like a valuable resource for animal welfare communication would be some kind of info graphic on how bad things are in total for factory farmed animals right now. Does anyone know if this exists? Right now it's easy for me to find graphic descriptions of specific factory farming practices, but I'm usually left without a big picture of how many animals they're actually impacting or back of the envelope guesses at how much suffering they're actually causing (comparing animal sentience levels etc.). The closest thing I can find is Food Impacts or Brian Tomasik's old chart of suffering per calorie. I'm looking for something that both communicates the total scale of factory farming suffering and is approachable to non-EAs. If this already exists I'd love to know about it!
I'll share resources I find for this in the comments on this post.
