What does it mean to have a positive impact? The effective altruism movement has some ideas. We'll take a tour through the evolution of these ideas from development economics into the science of existential risks and the problem of AI alignment. Effective altruism aims to ground its ideas in a strictly rational picture of reality, while thinking in the most ambitious way we can.

I will introduce these ideas in a condensed form and hope to evoke a lively, critical discussion and get to know each other's approaches a bit.

🚨I recommend that attendees go through some of the articles below and prepare your questions or objections - but feel welcome to come if you can't do so in time.

The meetup will be facilitated by Daniel Friedrich, a Master's student of research psychology at FHS UK and a co-founder of Students for Impact. This is the first meeting in a series in which we will explore the science of doing good and building a career with positive impact, adapted for the student perspective.
