*Date now confirmed for Saturday, April 20th*
Grab some fresh air, and (re-)meet some considerate NYers! Join for a laid-back hike and discussion in scenic New Jersey (less than an hour from Penn Station!).
EA NYC Volunteer Organizer Jacob will be leading the hike. Please see below for some (critical!) travel / meal planning and coordination.
Trail
The trail will be the South Mountain Reservation in Millburn, NJ. The difficulty is rated as "moderate" (meaning, it's about average), and the group usually goes at leisurely, manageable pace.

Here's the final draft of the itinerary (though, the exact return timing will depend on the group's pace - please allow plus or minus one hour for return planning):
8:45 am: meet Jacob in NYC at Penn Station in the NJ Transit area. You can reach him on FB Messenger or at jacob.eliosoff@gmail.com if need be
-> He'll be in the lower area where people wait for the trains, wearing a shirt with the EA NYC light bulb on it
~9:00 am (MOST IMPORTANTLY): all board the 9:11 am Morris & Essex Line train towards Dover (see train schedule link below)
9:11 am: The train departs to the destination, Millburn, NJ
9:56 am: arrival in Millburn and walk to the trailhead
~10:00 am: hike begins
1 pm-ish: at some point along the route there will be a break to eat a *packed* lunch
~3:40: walk back to train
3:50: take the train back to NYC
4:40: arrival back in NYC (Penn Station)

Stuff to bring
LUNCH, SNACKS, WATER - no restaurants/stores in the park, though don't overburden yourself either
COMFORTABLE SHOES - good traction, ideally some ankle support
A hat and sunglasses (if you'd like)
A mask, if you like: most of the event is outside and relatively covid-safe, but we will spend 2+ hours on the bus
The train may be around $8.50 each way = $17.00. Full-time nonprofit workers/students are eligible for an EA NYC discount, just ask
Tick protection (ie. long pants tucked into your socks and/or repellant). Ticks can be active any time it is above freezing. Also consider closely inspecting yourself when you get home: the risk with ticks comes if you don't notice one for days.
