Effective Policy in Australia: A unique moment to have an outsized impact

To tackle important problems, we need policy as part of the solution.

If we’re trying to make the world better, governments are too big and important to ignore.

But, for many Australians, policymaking can feel like a confusing black box. If Aussies would like the government to be doing something differently, they might not know where to start.

In this event, you’ll hear from others who have used science and reason to change public policy. From the environment to existential risks, from aid to animal welfare, you’ll hear from people who have shaped policy in Australia to make it more effective and compassionate:

- Hon Dr Andrew Leigh MP, Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities, Treasury and Employment.

- Dr Bidda Jones AM, Co-founder and Director of Strategy and Research at the Australian Alliance for Animals

- Associate Professor Marianne Hanson, the University of Queensland, and co-chair of International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which won the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize
