TLDR: Brown Forecasting is running an intercollegiate forecasting tournament on March 15. We're excited to have students (both undergrad and grad) come and predict the future. We have a $2,000+ and potential interview opportunities with top firms as prizes.
What does the tournament look like?
Think 1-day hackathon/olympiad/debate tournament, but for forecasting the future — teams predict on topics ranging from geopolitics to celebrity twitter patterns to financial asset prices, and the best forecasters get thousands of dollars in cash prizes and potential interview opportunities at top firms.
Day of, teams give probabilistic predictions on a speed round at first. Then after lunch, we will have a longer three hour forecasting period. Teams are 3-4 competitors, and we’ll place you on a team if you don’t already have one in mind. A few months after the tournament, all questions resolve and winners are announced/awarded: until then, you can track how your team is doing in real time.
Logistics
The tournament will be on March 15, 2025 from 11am to 5pm Eastern Time. You should come to 85 Waterman Street, Providence, RI 02912. Brown University is both accessible from Boston via the MBTA commuter rail ($10 for a weekend pass) and on the Amtrak Northeast Regional. We will have food for lunch.
Sponsorship
The club received funding from Open Philanthropy this year, and this specific tournament is being sponsored by Bridgewater, Metaculus, Kalshi, Manifold, and OPTIC.
