Hello, I am making an effective altruism club at Union County Vocational Technical Schools (free high schools that you have to take a test to get into), and I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to lead it in order to best educate and inspire people to join the movement without seeming off-putting or alienating the movement. I was thinking I could start with showing a general introduction to Effective Altruism/utilitarian philosophy, and what the "normal" causes are (eg. global health, factory farming, existential risk), and then holding discussions at the end of every meeting, and allow for other people to show their causes and philisophical thoughts as well. I could then probably show more about my philosophy, and show some more niche topics that I personally think are more important than the main ones; ex, wild animal suffering, potential AI sentience, ect. Is that a good plan, and does anyone reading have advice? Also, does anyone reading go to UCVTS for high school? If so, I hope to see you at the club meetings.
