Can we link the amount of news coverage a cause gets to the amount of money that cause receives?

The Ukrainian crisis, for instance, has dominated the headlines and led to millions of dollars in individual donations. Direct Relief, for instance, recorded contributions from 91,822 donors totaling $79,624,504

I have not found literature on the correlation between news and donations. Perhaps a study is needed? Linking airtime to donations could recognize the impact of the news in raising funds for impactful causes. I imagine organizations like the Prison Journalism Project that help disenfranchised people publish their stories would benefit.

Strangely this post has not yet feedback as of today.

OP is correct that we do need to establish the strenght of the correlation between news coverage and donations.

Do we expect Effective Altruism to grow as a movement and an idea without studying news coverage of it and how it affects EA?

Which movement in history relinquished news coverage of it?
