Bio

Hi! My name is Liza Munk, and I'm located in Santa Barbara, CA. I have 9+ years experience conducting qualitative research that centers underrepresented groups. My MA and PhD are in ethnomusicology, the cultural anthropology of music, and I did my research as a Fulbright Fellow in Amman Jordan.

How others can help me

Perhaps you can help me make my career pivot out of academia into a high impact career? I have a lot more reading, thinking, and talking with others to do before I can narrow down which high impact area(s) exactly I'd like to focus on.  I'm now looking for work that is also collaborative at its core, respectful of work-life boundaries, economically secure, and remote (if not local) so that I can stay close to my family. Would you like to connect on LinkedIn or Twitter to brainstorm, or introduce me to someone in your circles who likes to connect people or may have leads?

How I can help others

Helping decide whether to pursue graduate studies in the humanities or social sciences, as well as coping strategies to get through a program in those areas

Hi! My name is Liza Munk, and I found out about EA through an ad on the podcast, Dear Hank and John. I'm working on making a career pivot away from academia but not yet had luck finding a new job, so I found it really refreshing to stumble upon a more optimistic message about my ability to find a high impact career. My MA and PhD are in ethnomusicology, the cultural anthropology of music, and I did my research as a Fulbright Fellow in Amman Jordan. It was never boring! But I grew increasingly frustrated with academia and am so looking forward to finding work that is collaborative at its core, respectful of work-life boundaries, economically secure, and remote (if not local) so that I can stay close to my family. I have a lot more reading, thinking, and brainstorming to do before I can narrow down which high impact area(s) exactly I'm most passionate about, but I can tell you how nice it was to hear a reference to cultural anthro on the podcast - having a high impact on the Ebola epidemic. I would love to connect and talk more! You'll find my contact info on my profile
