Epistemic status

Low. I am an undergraduate student exploring these cause areas. By writing about them, I hope to see how well I can thrive.

About this series

Over the next few months, I plan to write a series of posts on the EA Forum where I discuss an aspect of each of the main EA cause areas, and explore it in some depth. The hope is that I can engage with the process of researching and writing about each one. Because I am strongly interested in policy roles, where research, reading, and writing are cornerstones of success, this is a way for me to assess my fit. Getting feedback on a public forum will also be useful in the same sense that the 10% giving pledge is useful: writing in public will hold me accountable.

Each post is independent of the others, so one can read them in any order.

The cause areas in the series

Here are the cause areas I aim to cover in this series, in order:

  1. Global health
  2. Nuclear security
  3. Biosecurity
  4. Animal welfare
  5. Artificial intelligence
  6. Mental health
  7. Great power conflict
  8. Global development
  9. Policy recommendations that follow from posts 1-8 (this will be more of a synthesis post)

In formulating this list, I tried to keep it to the broad, distinct areas that effective altruism as a movement works on.

The first post

My first post will be on global health, coming some time in the next month. I look forward to any feedback, thoughts, and ideas that anyone might have.
