I understand that meta charities are charities that are one-removed from direct impact. They do research either across charities in a specific cause area or across charities across cause areas. A good example is SoGive.

My question is this - is there a counterpart for meta charities in the think tank space? I guess they would do 'some kind of' research across think tanks. I would like to call these 'Meta Think Tanks', mostly because that is the name that popped up in my head and so you should feel free to call them something else if you desire. Also if there is a different name that already exists in the literature, I think it would be better to use that one.

If such organizations already exist kindly link to them. If they don't exist, do you think it would be a good idea for them to exist? If yes, what exactly would such an organization do? Do you think they will have a high impact?

The closest thing that I can think of off the top of my head is the Think Tanks and Civil Society Project at Penn—but the type of work that they do seems markedly distinct from SoGive...
