If the name sounds familiar, it’s because EuroGroup has been our inspiration for its creation.

Why LatinGroup?

Latin America’s economy is largely based on animal exploitation in fishing and agriculture, with a strong resistance to alternative proteins. Although we share a common culture, there is no unified legal framework to connect us, which can be a challenge. However, the issues we face on a daily basis are strikingly similar.

At EAGxLATAM (CDMX) last year, we held a meet-up where we timidly started sharing insights about each country’s legislation. To our surprise, the legal frameworks and challenges were very similar, leading us to ask: How is it possible that there isn’t yet an entity keeping us officially connected, trained, and sharing strategies?

While there are spaces such as the Hive channel on Latin America and incredible organizations like OWA LATAM, coordinating multiple organizations around legislation and public policies remains a challenge, as there were no dedicated spaces for this yet.

Our Organizational Structure

To address this need, LatinGroup has been structured into six key areas: general coordination, training coordination, regional coordination, intercontinental coordination, communications and social media, and financial management.

We launched our first outreach through FAST, and the response was a great success: eight countries have already joined the network, showing strong enthusiasm for expansion. We currently have a workspace on Slack, a short-, medium-, and long-term roadmap, a website, and an institutional email.

Your Feedback is Crucial

While feedback is always valuable, at this stage, it is especially crucial, as we are just getting started. Any insights or suggestions can help shape this initiative in its early days.

Join LatinGroup

We are building a collaborative platform to make animal protection work more efficient and impactful. If you are in Latin America and work in public policy or legislation related to farmed animals, marine animals, insects, plant-based projects, or cage-free initiatives, we would love for you to join us.

Together, we can be a powerful force for animals.

We are currently working pro bono, and if anyone is interested in meeting with us to collaborate on the early stages of this project, feel free to contact us at info@latingroupforanimals.org.

TL;DR

LatinGroup for Animals was created to connect, train, and strengthen legal strategies for animals across Latin America. Facing common challenges and a lack of a unified legal framework, we aim to build a collaborative network. We are in the early stages, open to feedback, and working pro bono. If you’d like to join or collaborate, reach out at info@latingroupforanimals.org. More info at www.latingroupforanimals.org.

This is exciting. I wish you so much luck with this important work, I've heard a lot that legislative work in Latin America is important. In the OWA we focus on corporate campaigning to secure cage-free commitments, so I really hope you have success in tackling the legislative side of animal suffering.

OWA's work is incredible! Upon rereading my message, I realize my (poor) English might be misinterpreted. What I meant was that their scope of action is corporate, whereas here we can focus on legislation in a broader sense. I'll edit it to ensure clarity.

No, not at all! Please don't worry, I understood perfectly! Keep us updated with social media and other ways that we can follow and support - we are all in this together :-)
