I know this is an old post, but I found this to be a really interesting read, especially as someone new to the community. I think your reflections on feeling disconnected from some of the current discourse are really valuable.

I'm actually part of a research team at the University of Toronto studying how members of the EA community prioritize cause areas and how EA has influenced their career decisions. Given your experiences over time, I think your perspective would be incredibly interesting to include. If you'd be open to it, I'd be happy to send you more information. Hello! I'm Raina, an undergraduate student and researcher at the University of Toronto, in Canada.

Our research team is studying how EAs prioritize cause areas and how involvement in Effective Altruism influences career decisions.

We have already interviewed dozens of EAs across North America and Western Europe, including staff at major EA organizations. We are now reaching out to members of the EA Forum to expand the study's geographic reach and would love to hear about the experiences of individuals in regions where we have not yet conducted interviews.
