As a vegan, my first instinct on exposure to EA's prioritization of welfarism in the form of regulation and securing corporate commitments was revulsion at any engagement with the animal industry, and concern for the hazard of generating propaganda for animal industries that reduce pressure on consumers to become vegan (for instance, repairing the public image of animal products such that potential vegans will say "good enough for me!"). Since then, I have come to believe that there's no abolition of the object status of animals without first exposing people to moral consideration for animals and establishing regulatory apparati to actualize that consideration. I'm looking for EA writings on this topic. I recall seeing one that showed welfarism didn't impede the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
