TL;DR: LANAIS is a new community-building effort to connect Latin American researchers, students, and organizers working on AI Safety. We aim to strengthen regional collaboration, increase awareness, and offer locally relevant guidance for entering the field. Sign up here to join the network and register here for our virtual launch event on Saturday, June 28, from 19:00 - 20:30 GMT!

Why did we create LANAIS

LANAIS was founded by Latin Americans who noticed a gap: while interest in AI Safety is growing across the region, efforts are often isolated, underfunded, or disconnected from the global conversation. We want to change that.

By creating a shared space for exchange and collaboration, LANAIS hopes to build a more cohesive Latin American presence in AI Safety—one that speaks with its own voice, grounded in its own context.

Why focus on Latin America?

Latin America is part of the Global South—a region often overlooked in global AI discussions despite being deeply impacted by technological change.

By focusing locally, we can:

  • Better address regional challenges and political realities
  • Encourage cooperation between countries that share linguistic, cultural, and historical ties
  • Build capacity in places where traditional tech pipelines are limited but potential abounds

Our mission

LANAIS has four primary goals:

  1. Strengthen connections between people working on AI Safety across Latin America
  2. Support high-impact career pipelines, with guidance tailored to the Latin American context
  3. Increase awareness about AI risks and alignment challenges throughout the region
  4. Foster collaboration between the growing number of AI Safety communities in Latin America

What LANAIS will offer

In the coming months, we will be rolling out:

  • A public map and database of AI Safety organizations, researchers, and communities across Latin America
  • A resource hub with career guides, learning paths, and field-building materials specific to Latin American realities
  • Occasional virtual and in-person events to facilitate collaboration and exchange
  • Support and visibility for local organizers interested in creating new chapters or thematic groups

We also seek to amplify the Global South’s voice in international discussions around alignment and governance.

Kick-off Event: Save the Date!
