The world today can no longer be compared to the past in any way. Yet, the West stubbornly continues to believe in its own righteousness and its superior history. What we currently see from the political leaders in the U.S. resembles the last convulsions of the Roman and English eras: flailing wildly to retain power without losing it. With this capricious behavior and unpredictable threats on the international stage, the U.S. is making absolutely no friends anymore. It is even putting allied countries under heavy pressure. Where did it go wrong? Does the West even have a future without a drastic course change?
According to GDP, the U.S. is the largest economy in the world, but is the ordinary population there wealthy as well? As a result, the gap between the rich and the poor is growing ever larger. Wealthy Western Europe has blindly followed the U.S. example since the establishment of the EU, which is unimaginable. Running a country as if it were a commercial business where only profit matters is a disastrous strategy. This is exactly what happens in practice: the weaker members of society suffer even more. Western leaders severely underestimate that the world has fundamentally changed. In the past, emerging countries had little to contribute because of their significant economic backwardness. Nowadays, however, they are far more advanced in crucial areas such as AI and robotics, developing at the speed of a supersonic rocket. This is a painful yet undeniable realization. While the West is stalling in its own righteousness and increasing inequality, the East is rapidly building the hardware of the future. If we do not act now to distribute income equitably, we are heading toward mass unemployment and, ultimately, a civil war. The established order is unnecessarily worried about change: with my model, the rich remain rich, but the ordinary person finally truly benefits. I have a workable solution for the future.
Robots versus Homo Sapiens
Job Loss
The dismantling of our industry to achieve climate goals is no longer the greatest enemy of our society; rather, it is the entry of AI and work robots. One of the biggest concerns is that automation can displace employment. While some jobs may disappear, new opportunities will also arise in technology and service industries. We must invest in education and retraining. This is crucial for workers who are at risk of losing their jobs due to automation. Programs aimed at developing technological skills can help guide individuals into new roles.
It is a fact that many jobs are substantially at risk due to automation. Estimates vary, but studies suggest that a significant percentage of jobs, particularly in manufacturing and simple administrative roles, may disappear. As far as I know, no pragmatic solutions for mass unemployment caused by robots and automation have yet emerged! Retraining is not always the answer, and it never will be, at least not on a mass scale. Most people do not have the capacity to learn new things, especially after a certain age.
We stand on the brink of a new era (AI and robotics). The development is progressing faster than we can keep up, particularly in legal matters. It is a fact that robots will take on many tasks previously handled by humans; however, what happens if the unemployment rate skyrockets to double digits? No country can sustain that in the long term; if we do nothing now, we are hopelessly behind!
At each new era, there have been fears of job disappearance, which later turned out to be unfounded. Why would this time be different?
Automating means increasing production, which benefits the economy. Many new jobs are being created, but future metalworkers will take jobs from humans, and no new jobs will be created for people! If we adopt a wait-and-see approach, simply observing how the future unfolds, we are already too late.
The new jobs of the past existed because people were needed; in the coming times, that will no longer be the case! AI and robots can perform many simple tasks, and virtually all new or existing jobs will be taken over by robots. Humans will become redundant!
One sector will experience unprecedented growth in the coming decades, which is the tourism industry (Schiphol must expand significantly). Most tasks can be effectively handled by AI and robots, rendering many humans redundant. Various types of robots will emerge on the market, including robots for businesses and households.
The fact that companies invest in robots to take over human tasks is undoubtedly great: reliable, strong, tireless, with extremely high productivity, and much cheaper than a human. However, unemployment is also increasing due to economic developments. Perhaps I have a workable solution for this problem.
New Proposal
By redirecting the wages of the robots to dismissed employees, we ensure that the workforce is not merely seen as statistics but as active participants in the economic system. A system where the profits from robots go directly to a fund supporting former employees can lay a solid foundation for social security. This promotes social cohesion and contributes to greater stability in society. Workers who have been employed at a company for one day are rewarded differently than those with decades of service!
For each work robot, a connection must be established with the laid-off employees, so everything remains economically and technically consistent. The company pays its staff (even if the tasks are completed by the robot); the robots effectively become new employees of the company. The government's role is crucial here: salaries go through the government to the dismissed employees. The purchase of work robots occurs via the government, which covers a large part of the costs, and the work robots are regarded as residents of the country! This ensures that the current economic operations are not disrupted!
This measure seems to be the most suitable method to maintain market functioning. For the future, it is also important that start-ups are given a chance; otherwise, established companies will dominate! Gradually, every work robot will be linked to residents: people will work less and have more time for themselves, and we will preserve our wealth for everyone! Otherwise, we will face imbalances; the gap between the rich and the poor will widen, ultimately leading to civil unrest.
The work robots will thus be lent to companies! Each company is different, and there must be customized solutions provided, as well as duration. These measures are necessary to manage economic development properly; otherwise, the government’s burdens will suddenly become too high and unfair to other companies that are unduly burdened and have no connection to the work robots.
Labor migration will spectacularly decrease, and the housing shortage will also ease. Some companies will exit the EU; they can no longer compete with countries that also source raw materials. Nowadays, we still stand out thanks to our high-quality technology, but that is rapidly disappearing. Countries that lack natural resources will face significant challenges. The Netherlands must also exit the EU; otherwise, we will not achieve anything due to EU interference, and we must focus on areas where we excel: flowers, fisheries, agriculture, ports, Schiphol, tourism, and so on. Speed in decision-making is our strength!
