So my evidence for this is basically anecdotal, but I strongly suspect the following:

Brains, upon performing a task, build dedicated circuitry optimized for that task.

We would mostly know this in the form of skill development. (For these purposes, I'm defining skill as "ability calibration" rather than "knowledge of an ability's rules".)

And what would this mean for cognition? Well, dedicated circuits are both faster and more energy-efficient than general computing, which makes them preferable for every circumstance except self-improvement and metacognitive errorchecking, which are the two main concerns of human rationality.

All this is to say, 'orgasm' is not actually a synonym for 'nervous breakdown', any more than 'death' is a true synonym for 'immortality'.
