I'm a senior in high school. I've been aware of EA since 2022, but only really gotten more involved in the last 6 months (went to EAG).

My background is in ops/entrepreneurshp (organized hackathons for HS students) and software engineering (web dev and systems, multiple internships). I'm also a top Quizbowl player in my area, meaning that I have experience in learning large amounts of information (history).

How others can help me

I'm looking for gap year jobs/projects/volunteering opportunities.

TLDR: High school senior looking for gap year work, volunteering, projects or mentorship.

Skills & background: I've been aware of EA since 2022. In the last six months, I've gotten more involved (ex: went to EAG). My background is in ops/entrepreneurshp (organized hackathons for HS students for 1.5yrs, advertised & fundraised) and software engineering (5yrs of experience with web dev and systems, two internships). I'm also a top Quizbowl (5 yrs, 4th ranked in SoCal) player in my area, meaning that I have experience in learning large amounts of information (history).

By August, I will most likely have upskilled in AI Governance (ie: take BlueDot's course). I'm happy to learn something else useful between now and then.

Location/remote: San Diego, California; I'm willing to relocate.

Availability & type of work: Part time or full time. I can start working part time now, but most likely not full-time until August [1][2]. I'm open to anything suitable -- paid work, a mentored research project, volunteering, etc.

Other notes: If you don't know if I'd be interested, contact me anyways! I'm looking to explore and build general aptitudes (especially research and information security).

  1. For UC schools, I can't defer my admission. I give a ~35% chance I'll decide to go to a UC, necessitating me to spend a single quarter/semester before dropping out, meaning I couldn't start full-time until 2025. This uncertainty has a 90% chance of being resolved by the end of March (when decisions come out). ↩︎

  2. 75% chance I'm participating in a scholarship exchange program to China this summer such that I could only spend ~2 hours a week on a project (effectively a pause) from mid June to early August. ↩︎
