I'm only now discovering the 9 Sep 25 podcast on ForeCast and reading the paper. One item I’d be curious to know more about: measurement. Section 6.2 of the paper notes there’s no external reference point for how aligned a societal system is. One candidate: treat a system’s power as bounded by the responsibility it verifiably bears and exercises, and measure the gap between them. On that framing, participation-dependence is just one enforcement mechanism for the bound, which would explain why removing it produces disempowerment, and why the excess shifts between systems rather than staying put (your burden-shifting point).
I’ve been developing this framing for some years across a set of domain case studies as well as better defining what constitutes a domain of power in our current culture, and I’m actively trying to falsify it. Curious whether you’ve seen work that already does this, or see an obvious reason the “responsibility” side can’t be measured. Happy to share a short write-up if useful.
