This post put words to something I have been experiencing directly. I work in northern Nigeria and I recently spent time translating an AI safety awareness pamphlet into Hausa for a project i got stuck almost immediately. Words like deepfakes required a full explanatory sentence. Prompt in its technical AI meaning had no Hausa equivalent at all.

I have just published a post on this forum that goes one level deeper into the specific case of Hausa what breaks in translation, what that reveals about assumptions embedded in AI safety discourse, and what I think should happen. Thank you for writing this.
