The Navigation Fund, Coefficient Giving and Mobius are seeking proposals to design and lead a program seeding and supporting student groups interested in farm animal welfare at key US universities. We believe a strong presence at institutions that disproportionately produce future leaders in business, government, and nonprofits represents a significant and still underexplored opportunity for the farm animal advocacy movement. You can see the full RFP here.

College groups have historically been an important pipeline for thoughtful, committed individuals entering the animal advocacy movement, government and other sectors. Investment from the animal movement in this area has declined over the past decade. Alongside existing programs at US universities, we believe there’s a case for expanded investment.

We are making funding of up to $250,000 per year available for a 2-year pilot program, with a high likelihood for renewal and expansion should the program achieve positive results. We will consider proposals outside this funding range if well-justified.

We are looking for this group to launch immediately, with programming beginning at the start of the 2026/2027 academic year (August/September 2026); we expect to make funding decisions by mid-late May.

The ideal applicant would be a new or existing organization that could seed and mentor animal welfare groups across up to 11 US target universities, rather than current students (unless they are completing their studies immediately).

You can see the full RFP here.

Proposals due: April 22nd, 2026, at 23:59 PT. Submit proposals via this Google Form.

Hi James,

I'm of course excited to see more funding and attention here and I broadly agree with your theory of change.

Obvious counterfactual is to funnel that same donation into, say, one of four existing groups:

  1. Better Food Foundation's DefaultVeg Campus Program
  2. New Roots Institute Fellowship
  3. Plant-Based Universities (UK-based)
  4. Upgrade Dining
