I posted this question on LessWrong, and one commenter suggested this forum, so I'm asking here as well.

Unlike other charitable causes, AI Safety affects affluent people, which suggests to me that advocacy may be more effective than direct funding of alignment research.  Originally, the donation options I found all seemed to be for funding research.  My question is: Is there a way to donate to AI advocacy efforts?

I'm also ok donating to organizations or grantmakers that explicitly consider funding advocacy efforts.  And feel free to make a case for why a specific donation avenue is most effective, or to let me know if I'm missing something like a clear reason why advocacy can't be bought or won't be effective.

Zvi's Big Nonprofits Post lists a bunch of advocacy orgs.

Last year I wrote about every policy/advocacy org that I could find at the time, although the list is now somewhat out of date, e.g. The Midas Project (which Ben West mentioned) did not exist yet.

I was in a similar position to you—I wanted to donate to AI policy or advocacy, but as far as I know there aren't any grantmakers focusing on advocacy. You shouldn't necessarily trust that I did a good job of evaluating organizations but maybe my list can give you ideas.
