I’ve made a simple tool for people who want to enter the AI safety job market, and are not sure how to do it.

What you do: upload your cv and answer a few questions

What the tool does: suggests a few next steps, explains why they make sense for you, and answers any follow-up questions you might have

The steps suggested for you can be anything from reading or writing on LessWrong, through using the 80,000 Hours career advisory service, to applying for a fellowship, or going to an EAG.

Open AI Safety Careers Navigator

Why?

If you are just entering the AI safety space and you’re thinking about pursuing an impactful career in the field, you might struggle to decide what steps to take. In fact, we might be losing many promising newcomers due to a lack of clarity about how to build a reasonable career path. As an Astra Fieldbuilding Fellow, I want to remove similar difficulties from our talent pipelines.

How can you help?

While I did my best to make the AI Safety Careers Navigator work, I must say that I have never written a single line of code in my life (Claude Code is such a life-changing tool), and I find it hard to predict where it might need improvement. I would love to get some examples of the tool producing bad advice or otherwise not working well. To submit feedback, please use the feedback form button at the end of it.

Thanks to Milos Borenovic, who came up with the idea, shared it with me and encouraged me to actually turn it into reality.
