Hi! My name is Micah Zarin. I'm an incoming freshman at Binghamton University, and I'm starting an EA club this fall.
To give some context, Binghamton is a big state school without an ambient intellectual scene. Because of that, I would reason that some of the advice that works at other schools where people have at least heard of EA might not work as well here. For example, I was wondering whether the default 8-week introductory fellowship would work at a school like Binghamton. Of course, the fellowship has clearly worked really well for a lot of groups, so I am a bit hesitant to just do away with it. But, at the same time, it kind of assumes that people are willing to commit to eight weeks of reading and discussion, and I think that mostly attracts people who were already intrinsically interested in EA in the first place. So, I'm wondering if there are alternative formats that people have tried.
If you've ever organized a group like this before, I'd really like to hear how it went, especially if you did it at a state school or somewhere that didn't already have an EA scene.
