We’re hiring someone to own the financial and compliance infrastructure at Macroscopic.

  • What Macroscopic does: We’re a team of 14 deploying up to $100M this year in grants and investments across artificial intelligence (governance, policy, welfare, and cooperative AI), societal long-term risks (reducing risks from fanatical ideologies and malevolent actors), and animal welfare. We’re growing fast and expect to deploy significantly more capital in the years ahead.
  • What the role is: Full functional ownership of bookkeeping oversight, multi-jurisdiction compliance, grant and investment compliance, banking and brokerage relationships, corporate structure, and internal policies.
  • Why it’s interesting: The compliance work is genuinely unusual — multi-jurisdiction charitable structures, novel regulatory questions around AI-related investments, and grantmaking in areas where few precedents exist. If you’ve ever felt like compliance work could be intellectually engaging but hasn’t been in your current role, this might be what you’re looking for.
  • What we’re looking for: Character and judgment first, skills second. You don’t need to be an accountant or lawyer. We want someone meticulous, intellectually curious, comfortable with ambiguity, and honest about what they know and don’t know. Strong operational generalists with financial literacy and compliance instincts are exactly who we have in mind. Two years of highly relevant experience with strong fundamentals matters more than ten years of adjacent work.
  • Details: Remote (some CET overlap required). $130–200k depending on experience and location. Full-time preferred, open to 0.8 FTE. Rolling applications.
