We are pleased to announce we are recruiting research professionals (advert here) for the UChicago Market Shaping Accelerator. These roles are both exciting and challenging. The roles cover a range of activities: applying your economic intuition to new problems, doing back-of-the-envelope cost-benefit calculations, and modeling (both theory and empirics!). We are looking for people who:
- are curious about the world and interested in tackling problems such as climate change and pandemic preparedness
- think carefully about incentives. We’re interested in modeling how firms will react and compete in response to new Advance Market Commitments (working paper)
- are comfortable navigating uncertainty and switching between Fermi estimation and more rigorous analysis
Our research professionals are at the heart of our work. They’ve led on the development of new market shaping ideas (see the results of our Innovation Challenge) and helped estimate the costs of future pandemics as well as the benefits of a universal COVID-19 vaccine (Quantifying the social value of a universal COVID-19 vaccine and incentivizing its development; working paper). The roles involve close engagement with leading scholars on the economics of innovation and market shaping including Prof. Rachel Glennerster (CGD President), Prof. Christopher Snyder and Nobel laureate Prof. Michael Kremer. These roles would be well-suited to and useful preparation for those considering graduate study in economics.
