My very short thought on what the EA community really needs to do right when it comes to supporting talents from Africa.

(Copied)

Innovation and funding programs that are dedicated to only Africans. Attempting to use the same scorecard for innovations from mature ecosystems (U.S, UK etc.) will lead to excluding promising innovations.

I wish that the leadership of EA orgs will take this really seriously.

EA needs Africa in order to multiply impact, Africa needs EA to empower young African talents to solve the continent’s and globally shared pressing challenges.

PS: I am not working directly on this issue, as I am currently focused on nuclear security. However, I would welcome conversations that could provide solutions and would be happy to support such efforts. My email - Ajudeonuifeanyi@gmail.com.

Cheers!

Hi Daniel,

Welcome to the Forum!

My guess is that some people are downvoting this because it is a "very short thought" that needs significantly more development to be a full post. For instance, it would be helpful to at least briefly identify some specific problems, explain why you think EA is currently using the "same scorecard for innovations from mature ecosystems" to address those problems, and explain why that isn't working for those specific problems. It doesn't need to be verbose, but having specific claims to evaluate would be helpful.

The use of all caps in the title could also be a factor to explain some votes. Use of all caps is discouraged as explained in https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/yND9aGJgobm5dEXqF/guide-to-norms-on-the-forum

(I did not vote on your post, by the way.)
