Is it worth spending $100k to study college in the US?

As the title.

Assuming if I'm going to major in computer engineering or electrical engineering, and my ultimate goal is to contribute in reducing AI risks. I could go to the second best university in Taiwan(NYCU), but the world ranking is only 150, and Taiwan relatively week at AI research. 

If I apply to college in USA, in the best scenario I can apply to a top 50 college(but top 20 such as Stanford is very unlikely). However, it would cost around $100k more than Taiwan college. Currently I DO have $100k, I don't have to apply loaning. However I'm unsure whether it's worth it. Counterfactually, I can study uni at Taiwan and study masters/PhD at USA and save $100k (If I donate it, it could fund an AI researcher's work for 1-2 years).

However, it's true that in USA college the research mentorship is much better( Though, I think maybe it's also feasible to join a top AI lab at USA remotely in Taiwan.) And you'll got more opportunities in USA(but, if I attend graduate school in USA, I could still get the working opportunities in USA, though the time is shorter). Also, mentally I don't incline to stay in Taiwan or go abroad. I only consider about whether the impact is worth the $100k.

I'm really uncertain about this. I believe some young EA people who don't live in America are also thinking this problem. Maybe you are also uncertain, but any thoughts or the advantages of studying abroad that I neglected would be really helpful.
