While running the current cohort of the Jewish Social Impact Careers Fellowship, I wanted to assign participants to complete a weighted factor model to systematically compare the career options they've been exploring up to this point in the program. But I found myself wishing the user experience was a little more fun than the typical spreadsheets-and-formulas approach. I threw together an app, put it on the JSI website, and had the fellows try it out, and the response was positive.
While not revolutionary, I think this app will appeal to people whose eyes glaze over when they see an excel workbook, and little things like default criteria you can click on to populate the model can save a bit of time for someone doing an 80/20 version in a hurry.
I don't plan to put much effort into developing this further, but please let me know if you have any feedback, quick suggestions, or would like to volunteer to improve it. Although this small tool is not a major priority, I'm sure there's lots of room for innovation in tech for organizations supporting effective careers (like the 80,000 Hours advising bot many of my advisees are using). I'd be excited to hear other ideas building on this MVP to make high-impact career transitions more efficient!
