Sometime in December 2025, the governor of Kaduna State in Nigeria, Uba Sani, visited China. In the course of the visit, he was invited to CP Foods Layers and Eggs (Beijing) Limited, which produces more than 3 million eggs daily. The visit led to the Kaduna poultry initiative being conceived with Chinese partners.
The initiative will feature 1.2 million laying hens and 300,000 broilers, with individual farms producing 1 million eggs daily.
The Federal Government of Nigeria confirmed the project during a meeting between the Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, and the Governor of Kaduna State in January 2026.
The numbers of hens and eggs are quite huge, prompting concerted advocacy efforts before the groundbreaking and take-off of the poultry initiative. If the project proceeds without advocacy, millions of birds may be exposed to high-level industrial farming and painful cage experiences.
The petition seeks to draw the attention of the Kaduna State Government and the Chinese partners to the undeniable need to make the poultry initiative cage-free.
