It would be amazing if there were an EA discord group where I could spontaneously call other members whenever I felt like it. This would be a great way to discuss each cause area so we can make faster collective progress. It would also allow us to bounce person-specific ideas off each other regarding how to better contribute given our unique careers and situations. Also, it would be excellent for building the community and increasing involvement. Personally, I find that discussing an activity makes me much more motivated to actually do it.

Does such a thing exist? Please let me know. If not, I hope one day it does.

Hello Davey: As I know the closest thing is EA anywhere Slack. You could google it and apply joining it. I resonante with you a lot because I'm also looking for EA poeple to connect and discuss with. However a harsh reality is that it seems most EA people are very busy to reply other's messages/mails.

Welcome you to contact me by DM me on EA Forum if you have anything related to EA to ask/ discuss. Though I'm definitely not an EA expert, but recently I have time to discuss.

abrahamrowe·2d ago·2m read

On October 22nd starting at 10:00am Pacific Time, Every.org is matching donations to select animal welfare organizations at a 2:1 rate, up to $2,000 per donor per nonprofit (so if you give up to $2,000, they will contribute up to $4,000 and the nonprofit will get up to $6,000). The first donation a donor makes to each eligible nonprofit will be matched, and donors can get the match for multiple $2,000 donations. So, you can get more than $2,000 matched by donating $2,000 one time to multiple...

Your work at [large AI safety ecosystem org] is not replaceable

When speaking to candidates who are considering working with us at 80,000 Hours, I often hear people worry about replaceability. The familiar version of the worry is about whether the organisation will hire someone else in your place. If it will, then the difference you make by taking the job is only the difference between you and them. There are a couple of well-known answers to that. The person hired in your place probably cares about the world too, and would go on to do somethi...
