I know some advocacy groups can be hard to judge in the moment and the time. I'm not sure that if EA was around in the 60s or 70s, it would have picked the SCLC and similar groups as top orgs worth supporting, but I still am grateful for those groups and what they managed to achieve.
I was wondering if there was analysis somewhere as to whether Climate Defiance is working at addressing the climate crisis at a more appropriate scale or pace, or if it's not, or if it's too soon to tell. This question was prompted by this article-- https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/climate-defiance-activism-uncomfortable-1235004241/amp/. I thought, 'hm, I wonder what EA's thoughts on this are.'
Some of the 'action against climate change' orgs that EA has mentioned as ones to donate to are ones that don't seem to have the same (or better) impact as the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) did, or a good ol'-fashioned recession. My personal leaning has been more towards the Extinction Rebellion/Sunrise/etc. route, which I know can be harder to quantify in the moment, but seem to have made positive impacts that wouldn't have happened otherwise. I feel that the Sunrise Movement and Declare Emergency did more to get the IRA passed than the charities mentioned in the Giving Green and Founders Pledge Climate Change Funds did.
So yeah, let me know what you can, if you can, please, about the effectiveness of Climate Defiance specifically. Thanks!
