Overview

  • 80,000 Hours has eight open positions across our advising, operations, video, and web teams, plus three expressions of interest open for video and operations roles.
  • We're trying to scale up significantly this year — staff capacity is one of our biggest bottlenecks, and we'd love to hire more people who care about helping make advanced AI go well for the world. We recently grew to 50 staff and plan to grow more.
  • Salaries range from $90,000 to $253,000 / year across all open roles, and are available in a variety of locations, including remotely.
  • If you've ever wanted to work at 80,000 Hours, now is a good time to applyApplication deadlines fall between May 25 and June 7, 2026.
  • If you don’t see a role here that interests you, check back on our website later – there will be more posted soon, including a role in our marketing team.
  • And if you're not interested in applying but you know someone who might be a great fit, we'd love referrals! Email recruiting@80000hours.org and indicate that it's a referral and the role the referral is for in the subject line. Our Advisors provide 1-1 advice to talented people trying to contribute to the world’s most pressing problems at pivotal moments in their careers. In this role, you’ll have 10–12 calls/week, and take ownership of a strategic area to shape the programme (e.g. advisee sourcing, impact evaluation, grantmaking). Operations team

We're growing the ops team significantly to keep pace with the rest of the organisation. We're running one combined application process for the three roles below — you don't need to decide which level (associate vs specialist) to apply for; we'll match candidates as part of the process. All three roles are based in London (preferred) or remote with significant overlap with UK hours.

Recruiting Associate / Specialist — Apply by June 7, 2026 (11:00 PM BST)

Designing and running hiring rounds, building scalable recruiting infrastructure, and helping shape how 80,000 Hours thinks about recruiting.

Salary: $90k–$143k, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: ideally London, UK, with remote options that overlap with UK working hours

Business Operations Associate / Specialist — Apply by June 7, 2026 (11:00 PM BST)

Shape what it feels like to work at 80,000 Hours by running events and retreats, improving the remote staff experience, and stepping in when other teams hit capacity crunches.

Location: ideally London, UK, with remote options that overlap with UK working hours

People Operations Associate / Specialist — Apply by June 7, 2026 (11:00 PM BST)

Help make 80,000 Hours an exceptional place to work by shaping and running the systems behind a growing global team — onboarding, payroll, benefits, visa sponsorship, employer-of-record relationships, and employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions.

Salary: $90k–$143k, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: ideally London, UK, with remote options that overlap with UK working hours

Video team

Our AI in Context YouTube channel makes documentary-style videos on transformative AI. Past videos include "We're Not Ready for Superintelligence" (10M+ views) and "If You Remember One AI Disaster, Make It This One" (3M+ views, recently won a Webby).

Operational Partner / Creative Operations Associate to Aric Floyd — Apply by May 25, 2026 (11:00 PM PDT)

A full-time, in person in Berkeley role. Operational right-hand role for our host and primary scriptwriter, Aric Floyd. If you can combine being a great thought partner, feedback writer, project manager, and executive assistant, and you’re able to handle a lot of different kinds of tasks with ease, this is a role for you.

Salary: $125k–$145k, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: San Francisco Bay Area, Berkeley office

Pair Writer / Writing Support to Aric Floyd (part-time contracting role, can be remote) —  Apply by May 25, 2026 (11:00 PM PDT)

A writing support role for someone who can work closely with our host and primary scriptwriter, Aric Floyd, during the intensive scriptwriting phase, including: providing feedback, keeping the project on track, and contributing directly to the scripts. This would be a great role for an excellent writer who has some free time for contracting.

Salary: $30-60/hour, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: ideally San Francisco Bay Area, with remote options

Executive Assistant to Aric Floyd (part-time contracting role, can be remote) — Apply by May 25, 2026 (11:00 PM PDT)

Communications, operations, logistics, and task management to support our host and primary scriptwriter, Aric Floyd.

Salary: $40–80/hour, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: ideally San Francisco Bay Area, with remote options that overlap with PDT working hours

We also have an Expression of Interest Form open for people interested in senior operations positions on the Video Team in the future.

Web team

The web team produces 80000hours.org and our research newsletter. We're hiring a product manager, and are open to different levels of seniority. The role is remote-friendly but requires significant overlap with Pacific time.

Product and Growth Manager — Apply by May 31, 2026 (11:59 PM PDT)

Make our content more helpful and delightful for readers; drive up readership and conversions to next steps. First projects likely include creating a career quiz we can ship to a large audience from a beta, and leading a visual redesign of the main site. This is a high-growth role — the aim is for you to eventually own the product roadmap.

Salary: $106k–$211k, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: remote with substantial overlap with PDT working hours

More senior (over three years of relevant experience, ideally including management)? Apply straight to the Web Product Lead instead.

Salary: $126k–$253k, depending on experience, location, and other factors

Location: remote with substantial overlap with PDT working hours

If you're interested but unsure which level fits, you can apply to either and note your level on the application — we're open to a range of seniority.

Expressions of interest

There's no fixed deadline for applying to the following roles. We're not 100% sure we'll actually hire people into these roles, but we are seeking expressions of interest to see who's out there. Let us know if you think you might be a good fit!

  • Contracting for video work (general, part time) — An open call for editors, scriptwriters, videographers, and producers who could contract on videos for our AI in Context YouTube channel.
  • Chief of Staff (Operations Team) — A thought partner to our director of operations, helping lead and run the ops team as it scales. London-based or remote with substantial UK overlap.

If you have questions about a specific role, the best place to start is the role description itself, which has more detail on responsibilities, who we're looking for, salary ranges, and benefits. We especially encourage people from underrepresented backgrounds to apply, even if you don't meet every criterion.

Thanks for considering us!

I'm curious actually why 80,000 hours didn't aggressively expand in the past. It seems crazy to me that one of the core EA organisations only has 50 staff after existing for 15 years. Did you not feel growth was justified before, or has it just been a gradual process that you're now pushing harder to accelerate?

Hey Tristan,

Mostly the 2nd -- We've expanded gradually but not aggressively over the years. We're trying to grow more aggressively now. Why not more before? In part, we had a philosophy of 'hire slowly, have a high bar'. We probably had this philosophy a bit too much. We regard not growing more earlier as likely to be a mistake. Another part was going through several CEO transitions in a few years, which led to strategic & leadership uncertainty, which is a hard situation to hire in. Hiring's also just hard and a ton of labour from senior staff. Over the years, we've often wanted to grow more than we've felt we were able to while keeping up delivery on our core programmes.
