Imagine compiling information on how to restart civilization into a series of books that are preserved and buried, intended to last 100s or 1000s of years. Take electricity: the book(s) would describe what electricity is, how to harness it, maybe even the basics for building and operating a power plant. Many people have had this idea.

But would it be worth it to start such a project? What is likelihood that it would be needed? My gut tells me it would be useful in most cases of civilization collapse, in that it would speed up the rebuild, but there are much fewer cases in which the restarting of civilization would be contingent on a doomsday chest.
