- The Animal Advocacy Careers Introduction to Animal Advocacy Course has been revamped. The course is for those wishing to kickstart a career in animal advocacy.
- Giv Effektivt (DK) needs ~110 EU citizens to become members before the new year in order to offer tax deductions of around 450.000DKK ($66.000) for 2024-25 donations. ALLFED
Juan García Martínez, ALLFED's Research Manager, will present findings from two literature review papers on resilient food solutions at the Cambridge Conference on Catastrophic Risk.
ALLFED joins Global Shield, BuildStrongAmerica, Observatorio de Riesgos Catastróficos Globales, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, and others in calling on UN member states and organizers of the Summit of the Future to continue to support Action 55 in the Pact for the Future. They signed an open letter that encourages these stakeholders to grant UN Secretary-General António Guterres the authority to operationalize emergency platforms, an essential step in enhancing the international response to complex global crises. Animal Advocacy Careers’ Impact Report 2023 is an in-depth programme evaluation to ascertain which programmes to stop, start, maintain, pivot, or scale up.
Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE)
Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) announced the recipients of their Movement Grants Round 8. This year, ACE received 324 applications from 73 countries. After careful consideration, ACE is disbursing $1,024,172 in grants to support 30 projects that will drive positive change for animals across the globe.
Anima International
There has been a leadership change in Anima International — Kirsty Henderson has moved from Executive Director to President, while Jakub Stencel, previously Director of Global Growth, has been appointed Executive Director.
This change reflects the need for different skills at the helm to align the organization’s culture and vision for greater impact. The new ED is expected to enhance the group’s effectiveness in helping more animals.

Aquatic Life Institute
Aquatic Life Institute hosted the 5th annual Aquatic Life Conference on September 9th and 10th, with 860 registrants, making this year's event the biggest to date. Dr. Daniel Pauly delivered the keynote speech, and 17 speakers presented in the panel sessions: Reduce, Refine, Replace, Reject. Learn more.
Centre for Effective Altruism
- Zach Robinson, CEA's new CEO, affirms that "CEA will continue to take a 'principles-first' approach to EA" in this post outlining the organization's vision and commitment to core EA values.
- EAGxToronto: Canada's inaugural national EA conference drew 216 attendees, with high satisfaction ratings and impressive first-timer turnout.
- The community health team published an updated guide on how/why to contact them and some updated policies designed to clarify what to expect from the team.
- Top EA leaders are gathering for the Meta Coordination Forum to talk about community challenges and align strategies. The event focuses on improving EA's brand and diversifying funding, aiming to foster collaboration and shared understanding.
Faunalytics
New research from Faunalytics establishes salary trends in the farmed animal protection movement. The report provides salary data across organizational revenue size, job level groupings, and job families. Furthermore, executive salaries among farmed animal advocacy organizations were compared with those of other animal-related nonprofits, environmental nonprofits, and social advocacy organizations.
Faunalytics’ third annual remote symposium for animal advocates, Fauna Connections, will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2024. The day-long virtual symposium includes 13 presentations covering three areas: Regional Advocacy, Small-Bodied Animals, and Strengthening the Movement, as well as a keynote by Ignacia Uribe R. from Fundación Veg, and a panel by the Faunalytics research team. GiveWell
GiveWell published an intervention report reviewing the evidence for community-based tuberculosis household contact management programs.
GiveWell also published several new blog posts including a look at how the statistical concept of expected value is incorporated into their analyses, their vaccines research team's current strategies for grantmaking, and more.
Giving What We Can
- Luke Freeman is stepping down from his role as global CEO of Giving What We Can, effective October 3, 2024. Sjir Hoeijmakers is interim CEO. Read the full leadership change announcement from GWWC's Board of Directors.
- Giving What We Can has begun their 2024 evaluating evaluators project with evaluations of Animal Charity Evaluators’ Movement Grants program and Founders Pledge’s Global Health and Development Fund in progress — and more to come.
- GWWC is now their own independent legal entity in the US, UK, and Canada. (Canada is still awaiting charitable status.)
The Humane League
The Humane League (THL) published their Q2 Progress Report, a brief overview of the latest impact THL has made toward their mission — to end the abuse of animals raised for food. As of June 2024, 56 companies had reported on their cage-free commitments to spare 23.6 million hens from cages yearly, and 75 new corporate cage-free commitments had been secured by the Open Wing Alliance (OWA).
